About the Author
All that I write about comes from my life and the experiences I have had. My early years, those in-between, and all that I have integrated into my current way of being. I write from my head and my heart, and value being able to share with my readers what I have experienced. My first book was completed when I was seventy, and I have launched the writing of my second book at eighty. I have always been on a quest to share what I have learned; it is the consummate teacher in me.
I have experienced many different roles in my lifetime. In my early years, as a daughter, a sister, later a wife and mother of three wonderful children. I started on my college path when I was thirty-two years old, and eventually became an associate professor of nursing (ret). My clinical practice was that of an advanced practitioner in gerontology/holistic nursing; I later studied and began to consult in astrology, before I authored my first book. Poetry was always a central part of my life; I fondly remember our family reading the poems of Wordsworth, Keats, Bryant, and all the great poets around our kitchen table; they nourished my soul.
I live in Palm Beach Gardens with my husband of sixty-two years, and enjoy the beauty that a sub-tropical environment can bring. Our family is international in its makeup, and adds greatly to its diversity, depth, and texture. I was raised in the Philadelphia area, moved to Huntsville, Alabama in the mid-1980's, and then relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida in the mid-1990's. There is a pattern of immigration that started over 100 years ago when my family (Wexler and Levin) left the Ukraine to come to the United States. My husband is from a Sephardic Jewish family who emigrated in the late 1950's to the early 1960's to Philadelphia; they were originally from Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt. My son-in-law's family came from Poland, and Armenia; one daughter-in-law's family (Bourne, Henley) came to Virginia before the Mayflower in the 1600's, and my other daughter-in-law is the most recent emigre, came from Medellin, Colombia at the very beginning of the 21st century. One can say that the family has cultural ties to North Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America; a fact that I'm very proud of.
I received a bachelor’s degree in 1984 from La Salle University in Philadelphia, and a master’s in family nursing in 1987 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where I was elected to Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. In 2004, I received a non-traditional PhD in Natural Health; my dissertation focused on: "The Emergence of Flower-Derived Complementary/Alternative Therapies for Healing the Body, Mind, Emotions, and Spirit." In 2012, I successfully completed the "Interpretive and Applied Astrology Training Program" at Southwest Contemporary Astrology in Santa Fe New Mexico with world class astrologer, Erin Sullivan. My first book, Jupiter Remembered: A Memoir, was published April 15, 2013.
I was a feature editor for Beginnings, the newsletter for the American Holistic Nurses' Association, where I authored a monthly column: In-Sites: Your Computer Link, and was a chapter contributor on Resources, for an award winning book – Invitation to Holistic Health. I have taught at community colleges in Northern Alabama and Palm Beach County Florida, and achieved the rank of an associate professor of nursing and curriculum chair. I served as the Vice President for Community Care for a local Alzheimer's Care non-profit, and have volunteered for Trustbridge, a provider of hospice, palliative, and respite services in Palm Beach County.
My time now is dedicated to my favorite passions: writing, being with family and friends, travel, astrological research, practice of peace/wellness strategies for the body/mind and spirit, and learning to love well and embrace the beauty of each day.
I'm currently working on my second book, tentatively titled: Until It's Time the Sequel to Jupiter Remembered. Until It's Time, speaks to issues of aging, the generations, healing and wellness, and preparing for the loss of a long-term loved one. The estimated date of completion is early 2025.
